Sol is a place with a lot of historical importance that was once full of old buildings, but the only one that has survived to this day is the old Casa de Correos. Today, it represents the headquarters of the Community of Madrid.

What to do in Sol?

Cultural Activities

We tell you some of the things you need to do to have an authentic experience in Sol.

  • Taste “churros with chocolate”, especially in winter, it will warm you up. The perfect place to do it is in San Ginés chocolaterie, but there’s many others.
  • Go for tapas: when you hear Spanish culture, we’re sure the first thing that comes into your mind is tapas. Well, Sol is the perfect place to try them, as there’s many bars and restaurants where you can find the most traditional tapas, but also some innovative ones.
  • Taste “bocata de calamares”: in case you’re asking, this is one of the most popular tapas of Madrid. It’s common to eat it along with a beer in Plaza Mayor, where you will see a lot of bars offering it for very different prices.

Nightlife in Madrid

If you were thinking Sol was only crowded during the day, you were wrong. It also comes to life at night. Considering we’re talking about the heart of Madrid, here is where the party is. 

You can have a night out in the multiple bars and small locals along the streets, where you will be able to listen to every type of music or drink shots you didn’t even know existed. Some of the most common clubs here are Icon, Joy Eslava, Moondance, Independance Club… there’s no excuse to stay at home!
