On 7 December, Milan celebrates St. Ambrose, patron saint of the city, on the eve of the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

To celebrate, the Milanese attend the mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Milan in the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio.

The Milanese begin the Christmas celebrations with various events such as: the lighting of the Christmas tree lights in the Piazza del Duomo, the "premiere" of the Teatro alla Scala and the "Oh bej! Oh bej!" and, finally, the tasting of panettone.

The "premiere" of the Scala Theatre

The Teatro alla Scala is the most famous theatre in the world, a temple of opera, dance and music.

Every year, the tradition of the "premiere" opens the new year with performances, is renewed and involves the whole city on 7 December, to celebrate the patron saint of Milan.

Nobody wants to miss the event of the year, in fact, so that those who have not been able to buy a ticket can see it, the opera is broadcast in several cinemas, theatres and cultural spaces in Milan.

 The "Oh bej! Oh bej!"

The "Oh bej! Oh bej!" Fair lasts about four days and is a must for Milanese and tourists, simply to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.

During this fair, you can find typical winter Christmas delicacies, sweets, biscuits, toys, craft stalls and many other things.

At the magical Christmas stalls in Milan you can buy the perfect gifts for your family and friends.

Panettone tasting

What is the best occasion to celebrate Christmas during the Feast of Sant'Ambrogio? The best is definitely to fill yourself with goodness and sweetness, especially for the little ones.

That's why the shops start to bring out the traditional cake of the city: the panettone.
