Neighbourhood Description
La Latina is one of the most authentic neighborhoods of Madrid. It is known as "el barrio de los Austrias" and its characteristic buildings have a multitude of Renaissance style balconies and windows.
It is located in the heart of Madrid and embraces the streets that descend from the Plaza Mayor to the Gardens of Las Vistillas, where the famous patron saint of Madrid is celebrated: San Isidro.
La Latina is also the heart of the "movida madrileña" and in its small winding streets you can find the ideal place to have a coffee, sip a good wine or enjoy the best dinner in Madrid, and get involved in its vibrant nightlife without changing neighborhood. The neighborhood is a popular hotspot for fun get-togethers and community gatherings, and don’t forget it’s the home of El Rastro – Spain’s largest open-air market! There is a wide variety of shops and supermarkets opened daily, as well as some of the best restaurants in town!
