Neighbourhood Description
The " Barrio de las Letras " is one of the most historic neighborhoods of Madrid.
The triangle formed by Puerta del Sol , Atocha and the Fountain of Neptune is a semi- pedestrianized area, which makes this area an oasis of tranquility and safety in the heart of Madrid. The name " Barrio de las Letras " , comes from the XVI and XVII century. This neighborhood was home to the most outstanding writers of the Spanish " Golden Age ". Cervantes, Quevedo , Gongora and Lope de Vega were some of the most illustrious residents. We can now stroll through the streets named after these writers and even stumble upon the ground that brought up these ancient inhabitants.
This is also the most innovative area of Madrid, an exclusive neighborhood surrounded by the best museums in Madrid ( Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen - Bornemisza ) , part of the historical neighborhood of the city, close to the most popular nightlife, shopping area, and centrally located to all types of transportation.
