The construction of Retiro neighborhood started in the end of the 19th century, long after the construction of its main attraction, the Retiro Park, which was in the 15th century. It was supposed to be a residential and quiet area, but due to its proximity to the city centre, it’s more of a commercial, but also cultural area.
Today, Retiro aims to be declared a World Heritage Site. No surprise on that, as it’s a very authentical and welcoming neighborhood.
Retiro neighborhood is located just a few steps from the centre of Madrid, limiting with Salamanca neighborhood. It’s divided in 6 districts: Pacífico, Adelfas, Estrella, Ibiza, Jerónimos and Niño Jesús.
