El Carmen, Valencia Old Town

Ciutat Vella (which in Valencian language means “Old Town”) also known as El Carmen is one of the most popular areas among young expats. Here you can enjoy the historic part of the city, the most attractive (and Instagram friendly) buildings, lovely cafes, bars and restaurants.

You can’t get any more central than this!

It’s a vibrant neighbourhood, packed with tourists and locals and, if you want to connect with more internationals, this is the right place for you.

But, there are a few downsides: even though here you can find everything you need, do not expect the largest supermarkets, car parkings, banks or many conveniences...it is not a residential area.

Ruzafa, one of the best neighborhoods to live in Valencia

Only in the last decade Ruzafa, or Russafa, became very popular in the expat scene: in terms of both accommodation and working spaces. This is one of the best neighborhoods to live in Valencia for entrepreneurial expats, digital nomads and international students, due to its eclectic nightlife, interesting architecture and multicultural cuisines.

In Ruzafa you can find many facilities such as banks, big markets and supermarkets, lots of coworking spaces and the transportation is pretty good as well: even though you are not in the super centre, you can easily reach any part of the city.

Interesting fact: during the Fallas Festival (undoubtedly the most important one, that you can’t miss when in Valencia) this area literally lights up! It gets crowded, packed with locals, tourists from all over the country (and the world), loud music in the streets and many parades.

Camins Al Grau

The popularity of Camins Al Grau has been increasing only in recent years among locals and expats. It is a quiet neighborhood but it’s well connected with the most important areas of the city: the university campuses, the enchanting City of Art and Sciences and...the beach!

Yes, by living in Camins al Grau you will have an easier access to the beach, such as Playa la Malvarrosa, with its kilometres of fine sand and warm Mediterranean waters.

Moreover, in this neighbourhood you will have any kind of facilities you need: shops, supermarkets and health centers and moving toward the Cedro area, you can find lots of cafes, pubs and concert halls. El cedro is characterized by its alternative atmosphere, indie or rock music and good tapas restaurants.

And do not forget the trendiest area: Blasco Ibáñez. It’s a few minutes walk from Camins Al Grau and definitely the most popular nightlife spots over the last couple years.

Benimaclet, to stay close the university area

Benimaclet is one of the most popular neighborhoods for students because of its proximity to the Universities and its good transportation service, with numerous bus stops and the metro.
You can reach the Old Town, the Valencia city centre, in about 15 minutes.

In Benimaclet you may experience a village feel, due to its traditional houses and narrow streets. In fact, it was an independent municipality until the year 1882, and then it became a district. 

Benimaclet today is a multicultural neighborhood, a landmark for international university students and one of their favorite places in town for a night out, thanks to the many restaurants, leisure activities and interesting cultural agendas.

La Saïdia, right next to Benimaclet

Located north of the city centre, precisely where the famous Serrano Gates outline the Old Town area, La Saïdia is a lovely and quiet place, famous for its many monasteries, bridges and parks.
