Before your arrival

When you applied for the Erasmus program it’s been quite exciting, but now it comes the first challenging step: looking for an accommodation in Florence and our first tip is to start the flat-hunting with some months in advance, to get the room or flat that fits you better.

As we just wrote, flat-hunting is one of the most trying parts of this journey, cause your new home will affect your whole experience.  

There’s something you should take into account when it comes to choose your housing solution: first, set up a budget, keeping in mind that it varies depending on the area. 

Moreover, if you’re really down for a truly mind changing experience, you should share a flat with other international students or young workers: you’ll have your own room and you’ll keep living your daily life your new family, collecting uncountable memories with them.

Get an Italian SIM card

Just like all the millennials, we guess that sharing memories with your friends and family is a big and important part of this adventure abroad. In order to achieve that, you should check if your mobile phone plan is valid in Italy (European citizens won’t have problems, just reduced data). On the other hand. if you come from a Non-EU country, our tip is to pick one of the cheap options available in italy: Wind, Vodafone, Tre, Tim, Fastweb Mobile, Iliad, etc. 

Obtain a VISA in Italy

Thanks to the agreement you signed back home, your stay in Italy as an Erasmus student will be covered up till the end of the program. But, if you plan to extend your stay, looking for a job or an internship, then you have to know how to get legal and obtain the Visa in Italy. European citizens can stay in the country up to 90 days just by using their ID or Passport, while the Non-EU ones should apply for the Visa as soon as possible.
